ACRA to introduce Contact Address regime
Last updated on 23 October 2024
Currently, all position holders in companies (e.g. directors and company secretaries) can provide an alternate address if they do not want their residential address to be made available to the public.
For a cost of $40, it is currently possible to give an alternate address that will be used in place of the residential address in ACRA’s public records. By the end of 2024, the existing Alternate Address system will give way to the Contact Address regime.
The registration fee for Alternate Address is waived from 23 August 2024 onwards until the commencement of the Contact Address regime at the end of 2024. There will be no charge for providing a Contact Address.
In the new regime, all records of position holders must include a Contact Address, which will appear in ACRA’s public records. If no Contact Address is provided, the individual’s residential address will be their default. However, ACRA will continue to send official correspondences, such as compliance notices and enforcement letters, to the position holders’ residential addresses in ACRA’s records.
The Contact Address and Alternate Address regimes are only available to position holders and public accountants (refer to the table below).
For Shareholders: If you are only a shareholder, you must approach your Corporate Services Provider to update your Alternate or Contact address in ACRA’s records.
All Contact Addresses cannot be P.O. Box addresses and must be in the same jurisdiction as the residential address provided to ACRA. For example, if the residential address is in Malaysia, the Contact Address must also be in Malaysia.
ACRA encourages position holders who are setting up company in Singapore to provide an Alternate Address if they do not want to reveal their residential address to the public. Be sure to give the details to your provider of incorporation services in Singapore at the point of registration.
